Pop open the hood and you can see that it didn't remain stock. Powering this big coupe is a 302 cubic inch V8. To make the driving experience even more comfortable, there is a power seat for the driver and all of the luxuries and amenities you'd expect from a car of this era are present, such as power steering, AC, heat and an AM/FM radio. The green on green combo works very well and makes for a very comfortable cabin. The dash, steering wheel and door panels are covered in the pleasant green hue as well, accented with wood applique. The green continues inside and covers the bench seats up front and in the rear. Just looking at the car you can imagine the feeling of floating on air, open the doors and take a seat on the plush cloth interior and that feeling is confirmed. With big chrome bumpers at the front and rear, the overall package comes together nicely to a classy look. Standing at the front of the car, it's easy to appreciate the sculpted lines that lead your eyes down the hood to the chrome grille that is topped by an admirable hood ornament and flanked by the cool hideaway headlights. The contrasting white vinyl top complements the green hue well and is accented even more with white pin striping and chrome trim leading down the sides of the car. It's just enough green to stand out and receive complements with, but subtle enough that you don't have to worry about it being too flashy. The auto companies benefit because they cut costs and they also hope that eventually the new employees might dislike the deal the UAW make and possibly defect from the union when these same employees could join a non-union shop for more money.The UAW was hoping for the opposite, that these new employees would be mad at the auto companies and side with the union when it was time to re-negotiate.At this point, are the current Tier 1 employees going to take a cut? Can the auto companies afford to give the Tier 2 employees the same amount of money as the Tier 1? To stem their compensation, anyone who joined after got paid lower.This was done on purpose. The UAW and the auto companies couldn't just shaft employees who, in essence, signed up before the financial meltdown. Unfortunately the darn thing was a true lemon. In its day I would say it was comparable to how a 5 Series BMW is viewed today as far as status/prestige and the type of person who would buy one. T-Birds still had a lot of carry over prestige at the time. It was an aspirational car, considered a 'personal luxury vehicle', combining all the available creature comforts with a big V-8. Personally back then I loved the look, as did my peers. Even the floor mats had white thunderbirds embossed on them. Silver/grey exterior and matching interior with split bench seats. 351 engine, velour interior and most of the available options.
